Vegas Convention
A convention in Las Vegas is usually the busiest from Sept through mid December and from early January into the middle of April. The two largest conferences are the Consumer Electronics show held in early January and the NAB or National Association of Broadcasters in April of every year. These shows can attract over 100,000 visitors and virtually fill every room in Las Vegas. If you are planning to attend one of the conventions or even just as a tourist, you probably want to check the schedule to see what is going on.
With so many people attending these conferences the conventions Las Vegas schedule fills up quickly and if you are planning to attend one of them, you should book early. Registration for the convention you are attending can be done anytime, although it is better to register early to avoid the last minute rush and usually there are discounts available for early registrations.

The real reason you need to book early is the hotel space. Many rooms are sold at a premium and you could end up a long ways away from the convention and pay a high rate for your room. One conference I attended saw room rates as high as $700 per night for a regular room, while the very next week they were down to a more reasonable rate of $79 per night. Booking early in means you will avoid the last minute increases in room rates that many of the hotels implement.
It also pays to shop around a bit. Some hotels that are not busy in a particular week when some of the smaller conventions are in town may offer great rates for their rooms. If you are prepared to walk a bit further or take a taxi you can sometimes save a lot on the price of your room.
