The Las Vegas Computer Show or better known as Comdex or Computer Dealer's Exposition announced they were cancelling Comdex 2005 on March 29th . This is the second year in a row that Comdex has been cancelled and it threatens the future of the Comdex show. The Las Vegas Convention Center confirmed that the dates normally reserved for Comdex have been taken by other shows. The show started in 1979 as a way for the computer dealers around the country to see new technology and set up sales deals. It's history has been marked by fantastic keynotes, new products and emerging trends. The Las Vegas Computer Show is currently scheduled for April 30 - May 5th, 2006 in Las Vegas.
Comdex provided the ability to learn about new technologies and processes, emerging email trends, the move to the Internet and the fault tolerant server industry. It was an opportunity to meet vendors face to face. Many people are claiming that CES (Computer Electronics Show) is the new Comdex or that Networld+interOp is the place to be, however both of those focus on niche parts of the technology scale and not the broad industry.
If you are planning to go to either CES (Computer Electronics Show) or Networld+interOp, there are many exhibitors and seminars to take advantage of. There are speaking opportunities in a variety of knowledge tracks that you can attend and learn about the latest trends in electronics and what will be introduced at the CES convention in Las Vegas. The deadline for speakers is Sept 23, 2005 to be accepted for speaking at one of the various tracks for the technology convention.
Hotels fill up fast and rates for rooms go up quickly so you may want to make all of your reservations early if you are attending the Las Vegas Computer Show. Some hotels that are not busy in a particular week when some of the smaller conventions are in town may offer great rates for their rooms. If you are prepared to walk a bit further or take a taxi you can sometimes save a lot on the price of your room.
