Casino Gambling And Poker Faces
By Josef Kuba
Competition is driven by emotion - nobody will compete for something he does not want or is not passionate about. Casino gambling is not exempt from this because every player wants to get their hands on the pot money. Competition is enough to flare up greed, pride, and every other emotion which can affect your performance. No casino gambling game attests to this as much as poker. This is the game where every little show of emotion - a grimace, a sigh, a smirk - is enough to make or break the game for any player.

There is nothing worse than unchecked emotions and expressions in a poker game. With emotions running high, players who wear their hearts on their sleeves are at a disadvantage. Emotions you display affect your opponents and how they react to your bluffs (you let your wife know you want her - who holds your paycheck now?). This makes it necessary to have a "poker face" in poker or any casino gambling game. A poker face does not simply mean that you keep your face free from negative emotions to hide a bad hand. It entails keeping your face and body language devoid of any emotions. As they say, being stoic and astute are two traits good poker players have - they hide their emotions while being perceptive about their opponents

behavior.

There are many advantages in keeping a poker face. One is denying your opponents the chance to get under your defenses. By keeping a blank face, you minimize risks of them guessing what cards you have. Another benefit is keeping your mind clear, a task which boosts your judgment. A poker face influences you to be rational and logical about your game. Letting your emotions get the better of you clouds your judgment, which results in emotionally-driven decisions which are neither strategic nor beneficial. Admittedly, it is impossible to be unemotional when casino gambling, but learning to control emotional impulses is a must if you expect to win.

Before attempting poker faces or casino gambling, there is something you must understand. No matter how many times you beat your neighbor's kid in poker, you must acknowledge that there are other poker players out there that are better than you. This means that you won't win every game you play. Heck, you might even lose a big chunk of your precious greenbacks before actually winning. This is not to cut you down to size. This is to help you realize that setting unrealistic goals for yourself is bad for your game and confidence. Starting with images of yourself as poker king can lead to frustrations and bad decisions which translate to losses and more losses. To minimize the impact, see each loss as part of a bigger picture - you know, like in the movies where the lead stars get beaten 80% of the time before winning? Kinda like that.

Keeping a positive casino gambling perspective and outlook is imperative. Letting yourself be affected by a bad hand and rotten cards takes away your focus for the next. If you lost a couple of games or more - not an impossibility - take it in stride. Don't beat yourself up over a lost game; it ruins your focus. Casino gambling is equal parts mental and financial strength so just grin and bear it.
